A new initiative

Remember how thrilled you were to bring your new baby home to a colorful, themed room, chock full of all the things a new mother and her baby would need: a sturdy crib, a rocking chair, plenty of diapers and lotions, a changing table, soft blankets, plush toys, drawers full of adorable clothes, and more. You wanted your newborn to feel as safe, comfortable and loved as possible.

Isn’t that every mother’s wish for her child?

Sadly, there are so many young mothers who can only dream of such a life with their new baby. They are too poor to afford even the basic essentials. Most ultra-poor families in developing countries live on $1 a day or less. And medical insurance is completely out of reach.

That’s why Julie’s Heart Cry has created a Baby Shower Gift Kit, to help give these new moms and their littles ones a good start to their new life together.

Your gift of $215 will enable a young mom who might be living on $1.90 or less a day to experience the joy of receiving her only baby shower gift … from you. The kit will provide a newborn with a hospital bag, receiving blanket, cloth diapers, mosquito net, (6) cotton sheets, (5) onesies, (3) baby outfits, crib blankets, wash cloths, towels, bibs, caps, socks, (2) mittens, wipes, washtub, diaper-changing mat, baby lotion and a grooming kit. The new mother will be given (500g) cotton, rolls of gauze, delivery mat, receiving sheet, (5) pairs of surgical gloves and maternity pads for her labor and delivery.

These items may not seem like a lot to us in America, but to a young mother struggling in places like Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya, these gifts are luxuries she’s only imagined.

Lack of health care and malnutrition are two of the biggest factors facing expectant mothers in poor, rural communities. Most young mothers – and especially teen mothers – also have many other obstacles facing them, as well. Some have been banned from their homes and are struggling to find shelter and food. They cannot afford to buy baby formula, and most are so malnourished they are unable to breastfeed. Few have an education or any job skills so they can provide for their child.

Many have lost hope.

But you have the power to change that. Your gift goes beyond meeting physical needs. You are helping this mother create a safe environment for her baby, you are instilling confidence in her as a mom and you are showing her the love of Christ. You have the opportunity to make a difference in a life now that could have ripple effects for generations to come.

Please give today so an expectant mom knows the joy of receiving essential gifts for her baby. Be a blessing she’ll never forget.
