Pregnant women continueto die and suffer needlessly
Unimaginable abuse. That’s the only way I know to describe the mistreatment by untrained midwives in many impoverished countries.
One of the reasons I’m so passionate about building birthing centers in these developing countries is because this abuse has touched me personally – my own biological mother died during childbirth. She was attended by “midwives” with no medical training who proceeded to curse her and hit her as she struggled to give birth to me 50 years ago.
Still happening today
Believe it or not, this horrific practice is still happening today – and pregnant women continue to die and suffer needlessly. Many patients giving birth consistently report verbal and physical abuse, neglect, discrimination, abandonment, poor rapport and lack of professionalism among health care workers.
Knowing what I know, how can I turn a blind eye to the plight of the vulnerable? Am I not culpable as a follower of Christ, a woman, a daughter and a mother?
As one pastor said, “God is always doing 10,000 things in your life … and you may be aware of three of them.”
There is a solution
I am aware of at least one thing: God did not allow me the privilege and opportunity of being in the United States just to build a comfortable life for my family and me. He rescued me from the difficult life I would have had without my biological mother – one all orphans face in developing countries. How can I squander this life that I've been blessed with?
What is the solution? We need to put our love into action! Through your prayers and your donations, you can help Julie’s Heart Cry ministry build a birthing center and save the lives of mothers and their infants – one family at a time. Together, as the body of Christ, much can be accomplished.
I am compelled by the grace of God to do what I can for these women and children while simultaneously sharing the Gospel. However, I cannot accomplish this task on my own, so will you please join me?
When JHC builds a birthing center, we will ensure all employees, including nurses and midwives, are genuine followers of Christ and that every patient is treated with love, compassion and dignity.
