Repairing broken places

One year ago this month, we met 21 children living on the streets of Bangui, Central African Republic. We listened to their stories, saw their wounds, and learned more about the hunger, rejection, abuse, and loneliness so many street children experience.

We simply could not walk away.

What began with 21 children became a burden we could not ignore—a call to enter their suffering, show them the compassion of Christ, and point them to the hope of the Gospel.

Just 12 months later, Julie’s Heart Cry, through Irene’s Home of Hope City Light Center, is reaching street children across 22 sectors of Bangui. At our largest gathering, 403 children were welcomed, cared for, and served.

FROM 21 TO 403

But 403 is more than a number. Each child has a name. Each has a story. Each has a future. And each one matters deeply to God.

Our pastors, nurses, barbers, staff, and volunteers provide warm meals, showers, haircuts, wound care, literacy support, counseling, family follow-up, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Children have been reunited with families, enrolled in school, and welcomed into ongoing care.

And in August, 10 street children were baptized as a public testimony of their faith in Christ.

This is what it means to repair broken places—one child, one family, one life at a time.

GOD IS NOT FINISHED

We rejoice over what God has done, but we believe He is not finished. There is still much to do.

Children are still sleeping on the streets. They still need food, medical care, education, and family restoration. Most of all, they need the hope of Jesus Christ.

That is why we need you to continue standing with us. Every prayer matters. Every gift matters. Whether large or small, your generosity helps us reach another child with compassionate care, practical help, and God’s Word.

Nehemiah did not rebuild Jerusalem’s walls alone. God’s people stood together, each taking his place along the wall. Together, we can continue to repair broken places in Bangui.

From 21 to 403 in one year—and by God’s grace, we will keep repairing broken places, one precious life at a time. Will you join us?
